The Guildford Mahjong Club was founded in 2010 by a group of local enthusiasts who had been meeting to play informally for a couple of years. The club now meets to play Riichi Mahjong on alternate Mondays in the centre of Guildford at the Guildford Institute on Ward Street. See the Club Calendar for full details.
In addition to its regular meetings, the club now holds its own annual championship event, and its members help to run the UK’s premier competition the UK Riichi Mahjong Open tournament, under the auspices of the UK Mahjong Association.
A number of members have also begun to explore the other principal rule set that is widely played in Europe, under the aegis of the European Mahjong Association, Mahjong Competition Rules (MCR) sometimes referred to as Modern Chinese Official, but for most, the fast paced and exciting Riichi style remains the favoured code.
